Ardahan Castle
Ardahan Castle, located in the Halil Efendi District of Ardahan Center, was built during the Ottoman period, in the 16th century. The history of our Ardahan Castle, which was built by the order of Suleiman the Magnificent in the middle of the century, and has survived to the present day, dates back to ancient times In the prehistoric researches carried out around our castle, findings belonging to the old Bronze Age were obtained. However, the castle has been under the rule of various kingdoms throughout history. Located right on the left side of the Kura River, which separates the Halil Efendi District, which is exactly in the north of our city center, and Ardahan Center from each other, our Kalemiz has a rectangular architecture. It is known that the Ardahan Castle, whose history is quite old and whose first construction phase is definitely unknown, was built by the Seljuks and was used continuously during the Ottoman period. The rectangular fortification walls of the castle were supported by many towers with square ceilings and polygonal plans. Smooth and cut stone was used in the corners of the tower, and Khorasan mortar was used as a mortar. With its masonry technique, polygonal towers and positioned form, the castle resembles the Rumeli Fortress.
