Bayburt Castle was built on one of the high hills of the city on steep rocks. The castle is one of the symbols of the city.


There is no definite information about who or by whom it was made. However, as a result of the structures researches, it is thought that the first building in the castle belonged to the Armenians and it is estimated that the castle was built long before the time of the Bagrad Dynasty. Bayburt Castle has attracted the attention of many civilizations throughout history. Roman, Byzantine, Armenian, Arab, Komnenos… It carries small traces from every civilization. The castle is also called Çinimaçin Castle by the people.


It is immediately noticed that Bayburt Castle has undergone many repairs from time to time. The church ruins inside the castle and the Oil Cave are among the historical values you will see.
