Döner Kümbet (Döner Cupola)
Döner Vault was built in 1276 in Kayseri for Shah Cihan Hatun, the daughter of the Anatolian Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I. For this reason, it is also known as the Shah Cihan Hatun Vault. Döner Kümbet is located on the Talas road. The cupola, which is placed on a black base made of yellowish cut stone, has a cylindrical body. All 12 faces of the tomb are decorated with vegetal and geometric motifs in relief. The mausoleum is reached by a narrow staircase in both directions. There are two lion reliefs with human heads on the door, some parts of which are broken. There is no history in the inscription of Döner Kümbet. Legend has it that this vault is said to have returned. This vault was taken under protection in 1980. Around the body, the surfaces turned by each of the twelve pointed arches formed by the tibia moldings are embroidered with different ornaments. In addition, to the left of the crown door, on a date tree, there is a ruined relief showing a double-headed eagle and a lion on each side, and another palm tree relief on the right of the crown door. On the door façade of the cupola, which is striking with the abundance of figured plastic ornaments and resembling a monumental tent, the double-headed eagle crest is evident between two human-headed and winged leopard figures.
