Giresun Museum (Gogora Church)
The museum is in the Zeytinlik District of Giresun. It is a historical basilica called Gogora Church, which was built in the 16th century. It is made of rectangular yellow and brown limestones combined with iron crochet and lead. The main gate faces west. Abandoned in 1923, the historical basilica was used as a prison between 1948 and 1967, and was redesigned as a museum in 1988. Another building used as a clergy house in the north is the administration building.
The majority of the works in the museum belong to the Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman periods. Terracotta figures, pottery, amphorae and coins are some of the items. Although the oldest artifact is dated to 3000 BC, there are also artifacts obtained from Erik harbor excavations.
