Gonio Fortress

Gonio Castle, formerly Apsarus or Apsaros, is a Roman period castle located at the mouth of Çoruh, 15 kilometers south of Batumi. Turkey is located 4 km north of the Georgian border. The name of the castle is connected with the myth that speaks of Midia, the princess of Colchis, and her brother Absyrtos.
