Hisar Village Attouda Ancient City
The Ancient City of Attouda, located in the Sarayköy district of Denizli province, is located on the borders of a historical village settlement known as Hisar today and dating back to the Seljuk Period. The settlement, which was built on a steep cliff-shaped hill on three sides to the north of Salbakos (Babadag) Mountain, looks like a natural castle and is very sheltered. This settlement, which was a border city between two important regions such as Caria and Phrygia in ancient times, is also the shortest road route connecting both regions via Salbakos (Babadag) Mountain. With the surveys carried out in the ancient city, the history of the settlement dates back to the 7th and 6th centuries BC. It has been found to date back to the century.
143 religious and civil architectural structures belonging to the Hisar settlement have been registered, and the settlement has been declared an Urban Archaeological Site in addition to the 1st Degree Archaeological Site. The Attouda Ancient City lived its heyday in the Roman Period, and the architectural and sculptural finds found in the city show the existence of a monumental and magnificent structure and facade decorations. The settlement, which stands out with its lush nature, is among the must-see places in Denizli for nature, history and culture enthusiasts. Accompanied by ancient ruins, among the stone-paved Ottoman streets and houses, all visitors who want to get away from the crowd of the city can visit it free of charge every day of the week.
