Kaiserswerth Imperial Palace
The ruins of the Kaiserswerth Imperial Palace are located in Düsseldorf's Kaiserswerth district. The Palatinate goes back to the founding of a monastery by the monk Suitbert(us) around 700. At that time, the mayor of Franconia, Middle Pippin, and his wife, Plekrudis, presented the Anglo-Saxon monk with an artificially created Rhine island by circumnavigating the old branch of the Rhine, on which a Franconian serf court was protected by earthen walls, ditches and fences. - already found. In the following years it turned into a well-fortified customs fortress. On December 23, 1982, the complex was included in the city's list of monuments in the category of castles, mansions, walls, and chateaus. The name Kaiserswerth is derived from the Middle High German word werth, meaning island. It therefore means imperial island or emperor's island.
