Akyatan Lake
Akyatan Lake is the largest lagoon lake in Turkey, located in the Çukurova delta plain formed by the Seyhan and Ceyhan rivers. Lakes, swamps and lagoons form in the near-shore parts of the delta areas. The lake is located within the borders of Karataş district of Adana province.
The area of the lagoon is 14,000 ha, its deepest point is 4 m, its width is 4 km, and its length is 17 km. It empties its excess water into the Mediterranean with a 2 km channel between 20 m high sand dunes between it and the sea. Although the amount varies according to the season and proximity to the sea, the lake waters are salty. Activities such as fishing, bird watching, fishing and hunting are held in the lake.
